World’s Stupidest Argument

Posted by Justin Newman On April - 16 - 2009

Bush flunkies trying to argue that Obama is more polarizing than Bush was. Given the fact that Obama had to take dramatic action, at home and abroad, to start lifting the country from the mess Bush made almost everywhere–and also begin to turn the country away from the myopia and greed of the Reagan era–it’s amazing that he hasn’t raised more dust or teabags. And, I should add the fact that the alleged polarization mostly results from the fact that Obama gets extremely low ratings from self-identified Republicans, who constitute an extremist shard of a party at this point, is a badge of honor. (Commenter sgwhiteinfla points out that the polarization is also the result of overwhelming–88%–support from Democrats.)

In the long run, it’s a safe historical bet that Bush will prove more polarizing than Obama because he was such an abject failure in the job–I doubt we’ll ever see Obama submerge to approval ratings in the mid-20s, or launch wars peremptorily without cause or purpose. The constant sniping from Rove, Wehner and the others during Obama’s first 100 days is a deeply neurotic reaction to the enormity of their own cockups in office. It shows a profound lack of class or grace, but then, that’s no surprise with these guys, is it? They ran the country like thugs, and thugs they remain.

Liberty And Justice For All

Posted by Justin Newman On March - 26 - 2009

tent-a07 Ronald Reagan once said that “Government is not the solution to the problem, Government is the problem.” For the last eight years Ronald Regan was absolutely correct. Government was the problem. The Republican party duped the American population into thinking that no one loves them more than they do.

The Republicans never before feined so much interest in the economic well being of it’s citizens. Deregulating the economy so that the new buzz phrase in economic history will be “credit default swaps.” Ushering in under the blanket of tragedy a ownership society that has left most Americans pennyless and in debt. Credit agencies have become the new drug dealers, and it’s users are overdosing on ill advised credit risks.

Told by the administration that we’re being shielded from terrorists as our civil liberties were stripped away. The mantra became “we won’t let them win,” as we installed surveillance on our streets, and tapped our citizens phones. The Bush administration telling us to forget those alleged violations of civil rights, we all know they wouldn’t have been punished if they hadn’t been doing somethin wrong right?

Tent cities during the Great Depression

Our environmental well being became a thing of the past. Global warming doesn’t exist, too many possible causes we were told. We consumed en mass, but not of our own fruits. During the war industrial manufacturing in this country was at a all time low. That’s okay though, who needs those narrow minded labor unions dictating equal pay for an equal day’s work? Too big a burden on that payroll, too many mouths to feed, and bodies to insure.

We shipped it over seas, because the Bush administration always knows of some other war torn country who exploits it’s children to take care our labor needs. When there was an outcry, we were told we were not patriotic and were “lazy,” for losing our jobs to foreign competitors. Maybe if you didn’t unionize your jobs would still be there, the administration all but told us.

How silly for us to rely on government, don’t you know they screw things up, the Republicans like Bobby Jindal tell us. I say no, that it’s not the Government that’s the problem, it’s the Republicans that are the problem. Consensus is not a fact base exercise, just because you all believe something to be true, doesn’t mean the rest of us buy into your rehetoric.

You cling to your faith, and pray for problems to fix themselves, while you deregulate the markets and wage war. You’re corruption and illusions of grander are now blatantly transparent. There is no sympathy for the plight of the Wall Street broker and his well to do family, as AIG receives death threats. New York once again has transfered into the city of old, where classware and gang violence put a city into chaos. Your golden cow has been melted down by taxes. No longer will the American people tolerate such disgraceful behavior.

Once every eight or so years when the Democrats take the executive branch back there is scientific progress, exploration into vast new wealths of information, and fiscal responsibility. Rosevelt offered the New Deal, Kennedy promised the moon, and made good on it, and Clinton lowered the national debt, leaving the country with a three trillion dollar surplus

There is a new authority in town, one of intellect and courage. Taking on new tasks and paving new roads in not just infrastructure, but green energy, education, and fiscal discipline. Have patience America. Do not jump on the band wagon of the Republican cabal. Do not listen to the naysayers and soothsayers who corrupted the nation for eight years.

Stay true to the hope and change we managed throughout the long campaign.  Stand tall as we walk towards the new technologies and policies of this President. Embrace the “yes we can,” and throw out the “party of no.” Together, we can achieve liberty and justice for all.

Rove To Finally Face Hot Seat

Posted by admin On March - 4 - 2009

roveA deal has been reached whereby Karl Rove will finally testify, under oath, before the House Judiciary Committee, according to chairman John Conyers’ office. Rove, as you know, perpetuated torture in Guantanamo Bay as a means of gathering intelligence.

Rove has long avoided and ignored subpoenas in the past by claiming executive privilege. This comes as a big victory for Americans who would like some answers as to why this man tortured prisoners without our consent.

Here is the press release:

In an agreement reached today between the former Bush Administration and Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Karl Rove and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers will testify before the House Judiciary Committee in transcribed depositions under penalty of perjury. The Committee has also reserved the right to have public testimony from Rove and Miers. It was agreed that invocations of official privileges would be significantly limited.

In addition, if the Committee uncovers information necessitating his testimony, the Committee will also have the right to depose William Kelley, a former White House lawyer who played a role in the U.S. Attorney firings.

The Committee will also receive Bush White House documents relevant to this inquiry. Under the agreement, the landmark ruling by Judge John Bates rejecting key Bush White House claims of executive immunity and privilege will be preserved. If the agreement is breached, the Committee can resume the litigation.

Chairman Conyers issued the following statement:

“I have long said that I would see this matter through to the end and am encouraged that we have finally broken through the Bush Administration’s claims of absolute immunity. This is a victory for the separation of powers and congressional oversight. It is also a vindication of the search for truth. I am determined to have it known whether U.S. Attorneys in the Department of Justice were fired for political reasons, and if so, by whom.”

Never without something to say, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, an fervent proponent of torture issued her own statement:

“The agreement for Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to testify upholds a fundamental principle: no one is above the law and Congressional subpoenas must be complied with.

“As public officials, we take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. It is the institutional duty of Congress — as an independent branch — to ensure against abuse of power through meaningful oversight over the Executive Branch. When there are credible allegations about the politicization of law enforcement, the need for Congressional oversight is at its greatest.

“In upholding our oaths of office, the House of Representatives was determined to preserve checks and balances — the separation of powers that protects the rule of law. It brought action in court to enforce the Judiciary Committee’s subpoenas, and won a major ruling by U.S. District Judge John Bates dismissing the extreme position of absolute immunity from Congressional oversight advocated by the Bush Administration for former Administration officials. Under this agreement, the precedent established by Judge Bates’ historic ruling rejecting this extreme Bush Administration doctrine will be preserved.

“Today’s agreement is a great victory for the Constitution, the rule of law, and the separation of powers. I appreciate the strong leadership of Chairman John Conyers and the assistance of the Obama Administration.

“Congress now has the opportunity to uncover the truth and determine whether improper criteria were used by the Bush Administration to dismiss and retain U.S. Attorneys.”
