I’d be the first one to trash an entire album of covers. I did it when Mike Ness released his Under the Influences album, and I continued to do it when Metallica did their “influences” album (If they’d listen to their influences they probably wouldn’t have sued kids.) This time around, I had to reconsider. I recieved an advanced copy of For The Lions, and have to say for two week straight it never left my Ipod playlist.
Jamey Jasta continues to put out great albums detailing toil, struggle and everyday life most people in this scene go through. In For The Lions he pays tribute to the bands who got him through all of that angst. Covering Slayer, Metallica, Hatebreed, and Madball to name just a few. The highlight on the album for me was the Merauder track Life is Pain and classic straight edge hardcore band Judge anthem Hear Me.
If you’re looking for a cool summer album to rock out to, For The Lions is pretty damn good. The only beef I have is that there are a few songs on the album I just skipped, mainly because I don’t like the original verisons. So if you’re not into Sepultura or Crowbar then downloading the tracks you like off of ITunes might be your best bet.

i have this! the best covers were boxed in originally by sub zero, hear me by judge, and ghosts of war by slayer. oh and how could you not like sepultura and crowbar????? haha
